Standard Chartered CEO Bill Winters has declared that blockchain technology will fundamentally reshape global finance, predicting that nearly all transactions will eventually settle on distributed ledgers. Speaking at Hong Kong FinTech Week, Winters framed this shift as inevitable but gradual, requiring years of collaboration between governments, regulators, and private institutions.

The London-based bank is already positioning itself at the forefront of this transformation. Its initiatives include developing a Hong Kong dollar-pegged stablecoin and conducting tokenization experiments. Winters emphasized that the transition to blockchain-based settlements represents nothing less than a 'complete rewiring' of financial infrastructure.

This vision aligns with Hong Kong's strategic push to establish itself as a digital asset hub. The city's regulators have been actively creating frameworks for stablecoins and tokenized securities, with Standard Chartered emerging as a key partner in these institutional crypto experiments.
